Austin Vesely Takeover: Six Artists He’d Like To Work With
I’d really like to make a video for Kendrick Lamar. He’s been my favorite rapper for a couple of years now, and his storytelling is always compelling, and lends itself to compelling visual treatment.
I’d like to do something for a band like Wilco, or a guy like Tallest Man on Earth. I feel like these types of artists would be cool to make videos for that are more like short films, maybe without the artist even in them. I had the opportunity to spend some time with with Jeff Tweedy of Wilco and mentioned this to him. He jokingly said, “Send it over when you’re done.”
Frank Ocean could be dope to work with. His song “Pilot Jones” on Channel Orange is my jam. His video for “Pyramids” was one of my favorites of last year, and I think he contributed some of the initial imagery that the director worked from.
I think the Black Keys would be killer to work with. I’ve always felt their music is incredibly cinematic. They just have a huge sound.
TV on the Radio would be a great one, too, and they just released a very hot new track, so I’m hoping they call. (please call)
